Are Texans, like Elon Musk and Joe Rogan, secretly planning their return to California over power prices?

Texans may be wondering what the beach in California looks like in February after power prices surged to tens of thousands of dollars per month for some residents in the Lone Star State amid the worst storm in over a century.

Space X founder Elon Musk’s girlfriend Grimes reported from Austin that she headed south to escape the bitter winter blast which left 3.7 million customers without power earlier in the week. Now there is another crisis Texas are dealing with — water.

“Just spent however many days in Austin w no power, no heat + a baby in -0. drove south all night 2 escape incoming storm but roads r rly dangerous rn.,” the Canadian musician is also known as Claire Elise Boucher Tweeted on Wednesday. “Super worried about ppl. What’s best way to get food and heat to ppl rn? This is a v dangerous esp for kids.”

However, Grimes’s battle to stay warm appears to have not thwarted Elon Musk’s view on the state which receives power from a sovereign grid. As it turns out, the self-proclaimed business magnete has even assisted when applicable.

In response to the frigid weather conditions, Musk Tweeted:

Interestingly enough, the dynamic duo has been hanging out with Joe comedian Rogan in recent weeks.

But with power prices spiking from $28 to $9,000 a megawatt-hour, one can’t be too sure.

“I know one thing, if I lived in Texas still I would have gotten the fuck out over this,” Intellihub founder and editor-in-chief Tweeted on Monday following reports of surging power prices which have left customers scratching their heads. “California is a much better option, at this point.”

The Sun reports: “Electricity bills for Texans shot up as high as $17,000 per month following a nasty winter storm that caused power outages and wrecked havoc.”

As the piece points out, Dallas resident Ty Williams’s power bill spike from $600 in January to $17,000 just for the first several weeks of February, creating an unsustainable cycle.

“How in the world can anyone pay that?” Williams questions.

To power costs to power, a small as 1,300 square feet have risen to over $3,800 in the past two weeks.

One household admits their entire power bill was only $1,300 for the entire year of 2020.

Lone Star State resident Aaron Cole told Intellihub staff in a text message on Monday that under Texas code houses can be condemned for not having necessities such as power and running water.

“If you can’t provide water and power to your house in Texas, it’s pretty common that they condemn your house and you can’t live in it,” he explained. “Those FEMA camps sure do come in handy then.”

Texas operates on its own power grid that is independent of the rest of the U.S.

There was talk of political succession in recent weeks. But the state may need to work out any bugs in the grid before attempting to pull out of the Union.
