‘Barbie doll’ bomb was set to bring down airliner with 400 passengers aboard: Plot foiled

A plot to bring an airliner down using an IED was foiled after airport security caught a barbie doll and a meat grinder packed with explosives

(INTELLIHUB) — A piece of luggage containing two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) which were disguised as a Barbie doll and a meat grinder were found by airport security before making it aboard an UAE-bound flight on Monday.

The luggage was 15-pounds over the allotted airline weight limit which prompted a security screening of the bag.

Australia’s Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk told reporters that four Lebanese-Australian brothers were behind the diabolical plot to destroy the airliner which was carrying around 400 passengers.

Sky News reports:

One brother, Amer Khayyat, has been detained in Lebanon while Khaled and Mahmoud Khayyat were arrested in Australia, the minister added.

The fourth, Tarek Khayyat, is claimed to be a senior Islamic State (IS) member living in the terror group’s de facto capital Raqqa, northern Syria.

The suspects were arrested on July 29 and are set to appear in court later in the year.
