Hickenlooper wants more regulation on marijuana industry

By Shepard Ambellas

DENVER, Colo. (INTELLIHUB) — Gov. John Hickenlooper (D/CO) has opposed pot from the beginning, although the vote, making marijuana legal for recreation in the state passed by majority, 55 to 45, in 2012. Now in 2015 Hickenlooper still has the same opinion.

While Hickenlooper wishes he could have “reversed the election”, he can’t. And now he is telling other states to follow his lead to put a stop on the business or impose more stringent regulations.

Hickenlooper went as far as to say that it’s a “cash business” which may attract “organized crime” and “corruption”, pushing the gambit even further, shilling out with a streamlined narrative.

“We learned all of the places we have more work to do”, Hickenlooper said, going on to talk about how alcohol is regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) in a push to demonize the natural herb which contains so many medical and healing benefits.

“This high THC marijuana can diminish long-term memory in teenagers”, the Governor carried on.

Now despite the fact that the marijuana business is legal in the state, pot growers and retail outlets are finding it hard to obtain financing from banks to expand.

In February 2014, the Obama administration released guidelines for the marijuana industry indicating the federal officials would not target financial institutions or businesses engaging in selling pot as long as those businesses were compliant with state laws.

Despite the guidelines, banks are reluctant to finance marijuana businesses in states where it is legal because federal law still lists marijuana as an illegal drug. Congress would need to pass a law removing that language., reported The Hill.

Now most people in-the-know believe this is all a ploy to regulate the industry even more by clamping down on what is already working well.

Hickenlooper is currently in Switzerland speaking at the Davos Forum.
