BROOKLYN, NY (INTELLIHUB) — Mixed-martial arts/boxer Conor McGregor and over a dozen thugs from the enraged fighter’s entourage stormed a UFC 223 pre-fight event Thursday, where they brutally attacked other UFC fighters which landed McGregor and Cian Cowley, McGregor’s SBG teammate, an overnight stay in a local jail where they were booked on assault charges and criminal mischief.
UFC President Dana White told reporters what happened at a news conference Thursday.
“What happened here today is Conor and approximately twenty guys apparently were let in through the doors by the MacLife guys who were credentialed here,” White explained. “They opened the doors for em,’ through an entrance, they stormed the building — got down to a loading docks where the fighters were getting on the buses and started to attack the buses, throwing trash cans and dollies and things like that — broke one of the windows and cut Michael Chiesa really bad.”
White said that Rose Namajunas was also almost hit in the attack.
“Obviously everyone is shaken up when thirty thugs storm a [event] — you know these guys are all cutting weight and getting ready for a fight,” White said. “This is the most disgusting thing that has ever happened in the history of the company.”
“These thugs were throwing chairs and bike racks and things like that through the windows of the bus and didn’t care who they hurt.”
A warrant was issued on Thursday for McGregor and his plane was not allowed to depart as a result of the attack which led to McGregor’s arrest and the arrest of Cowley.
White maintains his business relationship with McGregor after the attack is “not good” and said that McGregor made a big mistake or his future career.
The entire attack was captured on security cameras and video.
As a result of the fight, three of the pay-per-view cards were canceled.
