SYRIA (INTELLIHUB) — At around 3:35 a.m. local time 50-60 Tomahawk missiles struck an airbase in retaliation to Monday’s ‘chemical attack.’
At 10 p.m. EST, President Trump, speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, called Monday’s gas attack in Syria “very barbaric” and said it was the duty of the United States to deter the use of chemical weapons.
The President looked confident about his decision during his announcement.
The USS Ross and USS Porter launched the attack onto the Syrian Shayrat Airbase, crippling a portion the enemies defenses.
The airbase was the very airbase that enemy aircraft flew out of to launch Monday’s chemical attack killing scores of civilians, including women and children, violating a chemical weapons treaty leading to destabilization in the region.
Local reports suggest that a number of the missile were shot down by Syrian defense forces before they hit their targets but a number of them did, in fact, strike their targets with great accuracy.
The cruise missiles were carrying conventional tipped warheads.
‘This marks the start of a series of operations to degrade and eliminate Syria’s weapons of mass destruction,’ Ret. Rear Admiral John Kirby told CNN’s Anderson Cooper on AC360.
It is speculated that Russia may respond to the attack.
