NEW JERSEY (INTELLIHUB) — Ryan Dungey, no. 1, KTM, put on the performance of a champion in Saturday’s East Rutherford race, seizing the win after Eli Tomac, no. 3, Kawasaki, falls from first to finish 8th place.

The race was one of the most interesting of the season and shows just how much experience plays into the sport.

Tomac, who was sporting the red plate which signifies that he was the series points leader after his round 14 win, just couldn’t hold onto his #1 position and appears to have cracked under pressure Saturday which led to a series of mistakes.

After crashing early on, Tomac managed to stall his bike after casing a jump which added to his mental frustration, showing exactly why Ryan Dungey is, in fact, a three-time champion.

Five-time world champion and AMA Supercross commentator Ricky Carmichael chimed in on the matter during the race.

“Well it’s a different situation when you’ve got that red plate on your motorcycle, it could be heavy and I think you are seeing the repercussions of that red plate. Some guys can handle it and some guys can’t,” Carmichael said.

Astonishingly, Marvin Musquin, Dungey’s teammate, no. 25, KTM, was in first place during the final lap but made a mistake which let Dungey by to take the checkered flag in the Metlife Stadium. Musquin finished second.

The 16th and final round will head to Las Vegas, Nevada.
