Rep. Nunes set to brief President on newly discovered surveillance details
(INTELLIHUB) — Just days after FBI director James Comey shot down Trump’s allegations that his wires were tapped by president Obama, House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes has come out and told reporters that members of Trump’s transition team, and possible Trump himself, were under U.S. government surveillance following November’s presidential election.
According to Nunes, the surveillance was done legally but he was concerned considering it had nothing to do with the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference in the election.
“I have seen intelligence reports that clearly show that the president-elect and his team were, I guess, at least monitored,” Nunes told reporters. “It looks to me like it was all legally collected, but it was essentially a lot of information on the president-elect and his transition team and what they were doing.”
Did FBI Director Comey lie to the intelligence committee about #wiretap?

“Details about U.S. persons involved in the incoming administration with little or no apparent foreign intelligence value were widely disseminated in intelligence community reports,” Nunes said.
The information was “legally brought to him by sources who thought we should know it,” Nunes added, without providing much detail.
Nunes also said that “additional names” of Trump transition officials had been unmasked in the intelligence reports and that Trump’s communications may have been collected.
“From what I know right now, it looks like incidental collection,” Nunes told reporters. “We don’t know exactly how that was picked up, but we’re trying to get to the bottom of it.”
The intelligence chairman said he was heading to the White House on Wednesday to brief President Trump on what he has learned. House Speaker Paul Ryan was apparently briefed on the information Wednesday morning as well.
This bombshell dropped by the Intel Chair is undoubtedly going to interject an interesting twist during the upcoming Intelligence panel set to hold a public hearing next Tuesday with members of the Obama administration. The panel will include former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan and former acting Attorney General Sally Yates.
Now all there is to do is brace for the coming Trump tweet storm.
