Houston: Apache Helicopters Up to No Good?

August 6, 2012

HOUSTON — The following is a reader submitted tip:

On nearly a daily basis in Houston for the past several months, Apache helicopters has been flying over the major freeways of Houston. Most notable on the West side of Houston flying over I-10 and 290.

I was born in Houston and in 32 years I have never seen Apaches flying along the major freeways at low altitude, if we did see one if was rare and it was at high altitude.

I suppose they are doing training for road block scenarios; perhaps tracking, hunting, providing air cover, etc.

Here is a photo I took from my phone when leaving the office one day.

Usually they only fly one at a time but now they are flying in packs.  It is high enough resolution that you can easily identify them as AH-64 Apaches.
