Workers scramble to repair 500,000 gallon per day human waste leak
SPRING LAKE, Mich. (INTELLIHUB) — People have been urged to not come in contact with water from the Grand River after it became contaminated from an ongoing human waste spill which started on Feb. 24.
The “super spill” is currently ongoing and has been leaking over 500,000 gallons of human waste per day into the river.
A no body contact advisory has been issued for the area “about a mile east of the U.S. 31 bridge over the Grand River and downstream to Lake Michigan.”
Workers speculate that a pipe which runs between Grand Haven and Spring Lake is ruptured.
“Anyone with questions can call the Grand Haven-Spring Lake Sewer Authority at 616-847-3486.”
