Hunter Biden takes administrative position at one of Ukraine’s largest gas providers

UKRAINE (INTELLIHUB) — As violence and hostility escalates in Ukraine, western governments and corporations have been moving in to claim natural resources and infrastructure. This week, in a glaring example of imperialism and corruption, U.S Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, was appointed as head of legal affairs at Ukraine’s largest private gas producer, Burisma Holdings.

Hunter Biden’s recent appointment to the company has raised the suspicion of many researchers who are questioning the motives behind the US military’s involvement in Ukraine. Burisma owns several Ukrainian oil and gas companies, including Esko Pivnich and Pari, which creates an obvious conflict of interest for a family directing military policy in the region.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burisma Holdings, Mr. Alan Apter, said in a recent statement that “The company’s strategy is aimed at the strongest concentration of professional staff and the introduction of best corporate practices, and we’re delighted that Mr. Biden is joining us to help us achieve these goals.”

The press release, which was posted to Burisma holding’s website, announced that Hunter Biden will be on the board of directors and will be responsible for managing the company’s legal unit.

In the statement, Biden claimed that “Burisma’s track record of innovations and industry leadership in the field of natural gas means that it can be a strong driver of a strong economy in Ukraine. As a new member of the Board, I believe that my assistance in consulting the Company on matters of transparency, corporate governance and responsibility, international expansion and other priorities will contribute to the economy and benefit the people of Ukraine.”

This is actually the second time this week that the oil and gas industry in Ukraine made international news. Yesterday, BBC reported that the Russian government was threatening to stop importing gas into Ukraine if debts from the previous Ukrainian government were not paid off.

Nearly 15% of all gas consumed in Europe is imported from Russia through Ukraine, which could explain why the European Union and allied governments are taking such a special interest in the region’s oil and gas industry.
