Kilauea volcano unleashes more blasts and snaking lava

Fresh volcanic explosions have rocked Hawaii’s Big Island around Kilauea sending flying debris and plumes of ash in to the skies above the stricken region and pumping more molten lava in into sea

Scientists said the blasts followed a magnitude 5.4 earthquake on the volcano as the eruption of lava continues from the lower East Rift Zone fissure system in the area of Leilani Estates.

The fissure is shooting fountains of lava into the air which is hen flowing to the ocean at Kapoho and gas emissions from the vent have doubled.

Kilauea has been erupting for more than a month, sending lava into neighbourhoods from cracks in the ground and destroying hundreds of homes.
