GEORGIA (INTELLIHUB) — This week a man in Covington went into a Kroger grocery store just before 5pm, and began walking around the store dousing himself in rubbing alcohol.
As he covered himself in rubbing alcohol, he began to pick up speed, running around the store knocking items over, and eventually taking out a lighter to set himself on fire.
When police attempted to subdue him, three of them caught fire themselves, but the man was eventually subdued and the fire was put out.
According to reports the man is still in the hospital, his name has not been released and there has been no been no insight into his motives.
Traditionally, public self immolations have been used to protest unacceptable living conditions. People who do this have more on their mind than just killing themselves, they usually want to make a statement.
Last year there was a string of public self immolations in America, all of them disappearing from the media as soon as the victims had recovered. One even took place in the middle of DC, on the National Mall.
