National Guard Chief Dan Hokanson said in a statement on Monday that “65,000” soldiers and airmen on now “on-duty” and he made it sound like they are all in D.C.
“… this evening I am visiting some of the 65,000 National Guard soldiers and airmen that our on-duty today…,” he explained. “…our soldiers and airmen are here set up throughout the city to help protect our nation’s capitol.
The chief’s statement makes it sound as if there are 65,000 troops in D.C. However, the exact number is unknown.
It has been reported by mainstream outlets such as USA Today that there are currently 25,000 troops deployed into D.C.
It has also been reported that many states have sent National Guard troops and airmen to D.C. in support of inauguration security.
If Hokanson’s meant what he said, something big may be coming. I mean, why would 65,000 troops be needed for a virtual inauguration?
Slip of the tongue or actual numbers?
