(INTELLIHUB) — New York Governor Andrew Cuomo knocked the federal government’s response to the COVID-19 crisis during a press conference Thursday morning claiming Washington’s response fell short of addressing actual state government needs and loss of revenue.
“The congressional action simply failed to address the government need,” he explained. “… I find it reckless.”
The governor explained that with people out of work and tax collection shut down the city is running out of money fast. Cuomo said that he expects a loss of $5 billion dollars.
“We have mental health experts from other states calling up to say that they will provide mental health services electronically,” he said. “Tough times forge character.”
Cuomo also made clear that the lockdown is not going to be over anytime soon.
“When I feel tired, I think of the first responders that are there every day showing up,” Cuomo said. “They are there working seven days a week… who am I to complain about being tired.”
Aside from the lack of much-needed support from the federal government people from across the nation have come together to help residents.
More than 10,000 National Guard troops have been mobilized to fight the invisible enemy known as COVID-19.
