Things got heated at an Oval Office meeting on Friday in which President Donald Trump met with attorney Sidney Powell and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn to discuss what measures could be taken if need be to ascertain a fair election recount and verdict, according to a report out of the New York Times.
CNN reports: “Flynn had suggested earlier this week that Trump could invoke martial law as part of his efforts to overturn the election that he lost to President-elect Joe Biden…”
The issuance of an executive order was also reportedly floated at the meeting which if enacted would allow for the seizure and forensic inspection of voting machines used in the 2020 election.
However, President Trump downplayed the headlines and touted the news of martial law as “bad reporting” in a Tweet he made on Saturday, adding to the controversy.
“Martial law = Fake News. Just more knowingly bad reporting!,” the president Tweeted.
