Puna Geothermal Venture: An update after the lava struck

So far so good at Puna Geothermal Venture: Emergency workers and responders appear to be happy, at least, for now that the lava flow has ceased to the plant and that nothing major has happened up to this point

HILO (INTELLIHUB) — Puna Geothermal Venture (PGV) has been a hot topic over the past week after Civil Defense whistle-blowers sent text messages warning their friends and family notifying them that lava may overtake the plant which could cause a massive explosion.

Since the alert went out, officials and emergency workers on the Big Island have achieved all five of their goals in regards to making PGV safe after a molten rock flow from a nearby fissure pushed burning hot lava toward, and eventually onto, plant property.

5 goals emergency workers achieved:

  1. Remove hazardous material, deadly gases
  2. Process clean the piping to extract any gas left inside
  3. Isolate or caps wells
  4. Quench off all wells
  5. Plug the wells

A big hat tip goes out to all of the emergency responders working in Hawaii.

As of now, it is unknown what the future will bring which, for now, is up to Madam Pele.
