Shooting at Alabama high school leaves one student dead, another critical

One 17-year-old victim remains in stable but critical condition, reports say

BIRMINGHAM (INTELLIHUB) — Two 17-year-old students who attend Huffman High School were shot on Wednesday, in what authorities are calling an ‘accidental shooting’ which left one female student dead, and another male student in critical condition.

Birmingham City Schools released the following statement regarding the tragedy:

Two students were involved in a shooting at dismissal at Huffman High School. The school was placed on lockdown, and police were called to the scene. Students have already been released and police are actively investigating the situation.

The incident happened around 4 p.m., reports say.

One student who attends the school said the star safety for the school’s football team “did the shooting.”

The same student told WIAT CBS 42: “They find guns on student almost every day.”

The Mayor of Birmingham gave his condolences to the victims and their families.
