ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (INTELLIHUB) — 10 people are dead following the bombing of a metro subway car in Russia’s northern capital Sunday.

At least 37 others were injured in what is being called a “terrorist attack.”

The explosion occurred near the center of the city after the train departed a Sennaya Square station around 2:40 p.m. local time.

ISIS has reportedly accepted responsibility for the attack but Russian conspiracy theorists believe that the attack may have been staged in order to serve as a distraction from current political protests.

The National Investigative Committee is looking into the blast.

A second explosive device was found at a nearby station and has been defused by the bomb squad.

Security measures throughout the city have been “stepped up,” RT reports.
