(INTELLIHUB) — A grocery store receipt posted to Facebook reveals that the large grocery store chain Kroger appears to be exacting change from customers by rounding sales up to the nearest dollar using the current “change shortage” as the guise.
According to the original Facebook post by April M., the store clerk demanded a full $3 for a gallon of milk which cost $2.49 plus $0.02–that’s a total of $2.50 yet the clerk demanded a full $3.
“Stopped by Kroger today for just a gallon of milk,” the post explained. “Seems due to this ‘Change Shortage’, their new policy is to round every cash purchase UP to the next full dollar!”
“I can even accept if they insisted on they could not “give” any coin back,” the post continued. “It cost $2.41. I offered $2.50 payment.”
“The clerk refused the quarters, explained ‘due to change shortage’ policy & demanded another dollar instead,” the original post from April M. stated. “So literally the clerk was insisting I pay the $3 or they were refusing the sale. WTF ?!?”
This topic was covered extensively by Allen Marcus who appeared on The Shepard Ambellas Show on July 14.
