GMO Giants want you to believe that labeling genetically modified organisms (those that are in thousands of packaged and ‘fresh’ foods alike at our local grocery stores) would cost exorbitant amounts of money, making it a difficult cost for corporations to absorb.
But the truth of the matter is that labeling GMOs won’t cost consumers a single penny. Not one. Even a professor at Emory University School of Law, Joanna M. Shepherd-Bailey, Ph.D. says so.
Shepherd-Bailey’s research points to the fact that food companies change their labels all the time. They spend even more on marketing campaigns to get us to buy their products. The irony is that many millions of people are already yearning for GMO-free foods, so simply including a GMO-free label could boost sales considerably for food companies. Manufacturer costs are so minimal for labeling foods GMO, or otherwise, it would actually cost them more to print a new price tag.
The price tag they are probably really concerned about is the one which they have already paid, to include GMOs in so many of the products consumers once thought they could trust. Even companies that were once thought of as ‘household’ names have been poisoning our food with GMO. Pepsi-Cola, Coca-Cola, Kellogg’s, etc. have all had a sip of the Monsanto-Syngeta-BASF-Dow kool-aid – you know the drink that makes you think toxic GMO is good for you!
In the meantime – while waiting for Initiative 522 to pass, and for us to see ALL foods be labeled when they contain GMOs, you can use a simple trick to determine if something you are about to purchase is full of the stuff. Look at the current food label. If it says, ‘enriched corn meal,’’corn,’ ‘high fructose corn syrup,’ ‘sugar beets,’ or “soy” you can bet its full of GMOs since these are some of the most prominently grown GMO crops in the US.
