Eli Tomac from 9th — wins with huge 20-second gap

OAKLAND, Cal. (INTELLIHUB) — Emerging superstar Eli Tomac rode the no. 3 Kawasaki KX 450F machine to a flawless victory in Saturday night’s Main at Round 5 of the Monster Energy AMA 450SX.

Analyst and former Supercross champion Jeff Emig said that “Tomac was on fire,” but will need to carry his momentum into future races to secure the overall series points lead.

Emig commented on Ryan Dungey’s performance and mentioned how Dungey “didn’t look comfortable” during the race. But “Dungey is smart — he knows that at times he has to take podiums,” Emig said.

“Monster Energy Kawasaki, Eli Tomac, just have to keep doing whatever it is that they’ve done the last two weeks. Whatever you’ve had for breakfast today — you should have that next Saturday also,” Emig said.

Eli Tomac told Big MX Radio after the race that there were “spots where you could make the pass and others where you couldn’t […] you had to pick and chose for sure.”

Cooper Web, on the no. 2 Yamaha YZ 450F, rounded out the top three pushing himself to “the limit” once again. Cooper had a “dirt clod” get stuck in his lever assembly and made a few bobbles, before taking the third-place spot.
