Trump: ‘Payments didn’t come out of campaign financing’

'Michael Cohen was able to make a better deal by using me.'

President Donald J. Trump told Fox and Friends host Ainsley Earhardt in an exclusive interview at the White House on Thursday that his former part-time attorney Michael Cohen was just one of many lawyers the mega-mogul had employed over the past ten years who typically handled small deals which apparently included making at least one hush payment but even if true there is nothing illegal about the deal and the president did nothing wrong.

As the entire fiasco comes to a head, President Trump told Fox and Friends that the payments (presumably made to adult entertainer Stormy Daniels) were made by Cohen without his knowledge and were not illegal.

“Later on I knew [about the payments],” Trump explained. “But you have to understand Ainsley, what he did — and they weren’t taken out of campaign finance that’s a big thing that’s a much bigger thing they didn’t come out of the campaign.”

“They came from me and I tweeted about it,” he said. “I don’t know if you know but I tweeted about the payments but they didn’t come out of the campaign.”

Even if the payments were to come out of campaign financing it’s not even a violation and pointed out that Barack Obama did much worse, the president made clear.

“Almost everybody that runs for offices has campaign violations but what Michael Cohen pled to weren’t even crimes,” Trump explained. “A lot of lawyers on television and also a lot of lawyers that I have seen have said they’re not even crimes.”

Additionally,  Trump mentioned Cohen was able to make a “better deal” by “using” him.
