When smart technology becomes stupid — Humans now priced out of the game

By Shepard Ambellas

The future is now, and humans have somehow managed to price themselves out of the game in a massive leap backward

LONDON (INTELLIHUB) — How innovative can technology get before it becomes stupid?

You have to wonder what the deal is behind creating new technologies that straight-up price humans out of the game.

Take “Shanice” for example, a holographic receptionist at the council offices which now saves the company about $26,500 USD a year.

That’s right, once the firm purchased Shanice outright for the equivalent of $18,500 USD, within months the computer hologram became pure profit–minus the power bill of course as now there is no more need for a human presence.

Digital Trends reported:

“The best thing is it’s going to save us lots of money, without compromising our service,” Denselow told the Evening Standard. “Nowadays we’re constantly having to look at innovative ways to cut costs and they don’t come more cutting edge than Shanice.”

[…]

“As the council admits, Shanice can’t respond even to basic questions but is limited to a small number of pre-recorded scripts,” Hopkins said. “I hope she has been told one of the commonest questions is: ‘Where are the toilets?’”

Interestingly enough, social trends are rapidly moving toward a cashless and humanless society, demonstrating that humans are one day going to be obsolete.

On a side note, lyrics from the metal band Fear Factory’s 1998 song entitled “Obsolete”, detail this account as well. The lyrics read:

Nothing is the way it seems
Discerning man from machines now

Dominate as to erase
Wiping man off Earth’s face now

Defaced by all inept justice
Shamed by the mental abuses
Branded “inferior weakness”
Ordered to cease and to desist!

Man is obsolete!
Our world, obsolete!
Man is obsolete!
Erased, extinct!
Obsolete!

Fueling engines through deceit
To eradicate humanity

Defaced by all inept justice
Shamed by the mental abuses
Branded “inferior weakness”
Ordered to cease and desist!

Man is obsolete!
Our world, obsolete!
Man is obsolete!
Erased, extinct!
Obsolete!

Looks like they hit it on the head back in 98′. Interesting times.
