Riverview Gun Sales license revoked only after the Lanza shooting spree, all the while having over 500 violations
NEWTOWN (INTELLIHUB) — Within one week of the Sandy Hook School shooting a local gun shop named “Riverview Gun Sales” had its license to sell firearms revoked by the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms (BATF). The revocation came after the store had over 500 violations ranging from selling guns to felons, to selling guns with no background checks to random individuals reports indicate.
Riverview Gun Sales was the store who allegedly sold Nancy Lanza, Adam Lanza’s mother the AR15 rifle used in the reported mass murder.
The Litchfield County Times reported, “Robert Altchiler, attorney for Riverview since late January, said Thursday that the ATF was discussing a temporary shutdown of the store last year. He said the revocation came about a week after the massacre.
“They went from a temporary shutdown being sufficient to a permanent license revocation and that happened within a week of Newtown,” he said.
He also noted the case of a man who stole a gun from the store days before the Newtown shooting. The man was a convicted felon and the store didn’t realize the firearm had been stolen until contacted by authorities, according to a federal arrest affidavit.
An ATF spokeswoman had no immediate comment.
ATF officials said federal firearms license holders receive a copy of the violations report before a revocation is initiated and are made aware of the violations again during the hearing process. They have 60 days to appeal and in this case they chose not to do so, officials said.”
The store was allowed to operate for over a year with hundreds of violations accumulating.
What this clearly demonstrates is that the entire system failed anyway as hundreds of violations should have never accumulated. Wouldn’t one assume there is a 3 strikes and you’re out policy?
How ludicrous is it that the store would even be allowed to operate with 500 violations?
With that being stated, why impose more gun control laws?
