Wikileaks appears to have just released unencrypted “insurance” file

Whilst it’s unclear if this was done on purpose or simply by mistake

Late yesterday (US time), Wikileaks apparently released a fully open and unencrypted “insurance” file on its website.

wikileaks-unencrypted-fileWhilst it’s unclear if this was done on purpose or simply by mistake, a folder within the Wikileaks server has opened at the address https://file.wikileaks.org/file/.

Upon my checking of this link, I found dozens, possibly even hundreds, of folders containing doc, pdf, wav, jpg and various other files, as well as dozens of subdirectories with files covering a wide range of what appears to be military and intelligence information.

The basis as to why this information has been disclosed is unclear at this point in time, although many are speculating that it may be the release of one of Wikileaks’ “insurance files” which in light of Assange’s current situation would not be surprising.
